Funded by the Youth Development Committee of the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and organised by our Mytheast Youth Club, "The Path of Inheritance": Education in the Transmission of Traditional Culture and Skills in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Hong Kong–Zhongshan Youth Two-Way Exchange Delegation was successfully held from April to May 2026. The closing ceremony and summary sharing session took place on the afternoon of 30 May 2026 at Future Theatre 2, HKPC Academy, HKPC Building, 78 Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon. This project aimed to promote exchanges between Hong Kong and Zhongshan youth, deepening their mutual understanding of each other's cultures. Hong Kong youth proposed collaborative ideas and worked with Zhongshan youth to use advanced technology to preserve and promote the traditional culture and crafts of Zhongshan, putting these ideas into practice. Our association will use this project as a starting point to launch a series of exchange activities featuring collaboration between Hong Kong and mainland youth, using high technology to preserve and promote traditional culture across different mainland provinces and cities. This responds to the national "15th Five-Year Plan" which supports Chinese culture, technology, and youth development, contributing to Hong Kong's integration into the national development strategy.

 

A total of 40 young people from Hong Kong and Zhongshan participated in this year's exchange delegation. They visited various cultural landmarks including the Zhongshan West District Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall, the Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen, the Zhongshan Museum, the Zhongshan Youth Activity Centre, Zhongshan Vocational and Technical College, as well as the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Police Museum, the Legislative Council, the Po Leung Kuk Museum, and the Hong Kong Museum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.

 

Participating Hong Kong youth proposed multiple outstanding collaborative concepts. Using the virtual reality (VR) system provided by Mytheast Youth Club, they designed a series of virtual tour content related to Zhongshan's culture and intangible cultural heritage, covering the Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen, the Drunken Dragon Dance, Xiaolan Embroidery, and Sunwen West Road Pedestrian Street. Zhongshan youth, leveraging their familiarity with local culture, assisted in conceptualising the tour content and used artificial intelligence (AI) to generate multilingual audio guides, integrating them into the VR system to promote Zhongshan culture to the world through panoramic views and multiple languages in an immersive manner. These collaborative ideas were successfully implemented, ultimately producing virtual reality tour works including the Huang Clan Ancestral Hall, Fengshan Park, and the Redwood Cultural Expo City.

 

Wong Sin Yan, a Hong Kong youth who won the "Gold Award for Outstanding Cooperation Proposal", proposed creating a VR tour of the Redwood Cultural Expo City to promote the traditional craft of redwood furniture carving in Zhongshan. During her sharing, she said: "While writing the proposal, I learned about Zhongshan's unique cultural heritage and deeply felt the importance and urgency of passing on intangible cultural heritage. Looking ahead, I hope that with technological development, young people from both places can each play to their strengths, working together through the integration of 'traditional intangible heritage + digital technology' to inject new energy into traditional crafts."

 

Mr. Lam Chi Wing, Hong Kong Deputy to the National People's Congress and Chairman of Mytheast Youth Club, emphasised in his speech at the closing ceremony: "This 'Path of Inheritance' exchange delegation truly embodies the concepts of youth collaboration and technological innovation. Over the past month, young people from Hong Kong and Zhongshan have worked together to gain an in-depth understanding of Zhongshan's traditional culture and intangible heritage, using advanced technologies such as VR and AI to propose innovative preservation and promotion solutions. More importantly, these collaborations were not just 'empty talk' — we have truly implemented outstanding proposals, empowering culture with technology and giving traditional crafts a new life in the digital age. This is a concrete outcome of collaboration between Hong Kong and mainland youth, and a practical action responding to the national '15th Five-Year Plan' and promoting the integration of culture and technology."

 

In the next phase, we will continue the spirit of "The Path of Inheritance" by collaborating with more mainland provinces and cities, encouraging young people to use innovative technology to preserve and promote traditional Chinese culture, and further facilitating Hong Kong's integration into the national development strategy.
