Mytheast Youth Club led Hong Kong youth to Geneva, Switzerland, from 11 to 23 July 2026, to participate in the five-day United Nations Youth Development Programme (UNYDP), successfully completing the official training organised by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

The programme, exclusively customised for Chinese youth by UNITAR in collaboration with GBAMUN and Mytheast Youth Club, aims to cultivate young talents with international perspectives and policy research capabilities, building a pipeline of future leaders for Hong Kong and the nation.

Immersive UN Training at the Heart of International Diplomacy

​

Throughout the training, participants visited the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) and multiple international organisations, engaging in direct dialogue with UN officials, diplomats, and international experts. The itinerary included expert lectures and site visits, covering:

​

• A guided tour of the Palais des Nations to understand the history and functioning of the United Nations;

• Training workshops led by UNITAR experts on multilateral diplomacy, UN resolution writing, and consensus building;

• Visits to the World Health Organization (WHO) to learn about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global diplomacy;

• Tours of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the ICRC Museum to understand the missions of international organisations and humanitarian work;

• A welcome dinner cruise on Lake Geneva hosted by UNITAR, providing networking opportunities with UN officials.

 

World-Class Experts Deliver Core Diplomatic Skills Training

Participants had the privilege of learning from several internationally renowned experts, including:

​

• Ms. Alice Richard (former UNICEF staff member) leading workshops on the SDGs and innovation for impact;

• Mr. Lars Tillfors (former Swedish diplomat) teaching conference diplomacy and UN resolution writing;

• Mr. Jerome L'host (UNITAR expert and certified coach) guiding public speaking skills;

• H.E. M. Bernardino Regazzoni (former Swiss Ambassador to China) sharing insights on global diplomacy;

• Mr. Michael Chiribau (UNITAR Programme Coordination Consultant) explaining the Sustainable Development Goals.

Translating Learning into Action for Hong Kong and the Nation

​

Upon completion of the programme, participants will write individual action plans on "How to Apply UN Learning Experiences to Contribute to the Development of Hong Kong and the Nation." These plans will be presented at the Youth Sustainable Development International Summit, with outstanding proposals receiving media coverage. Mytheast Youth Club will assist participants in implementing their plans by providing resources and support.
